The Université de Montreal is one of the leading Canadian universities. Through its internal network of faculties it has developed a broad spectrum collaborations within which biomedical sciences occupies a central place. It coordinates a group of Montreal university hospitals and an advanced centre for neuroscience research. The main areas of research of the latter are: mechanisms of movement disorders, biomolecular bases of aging diseases, pathways and mechanisms of pain, cellular substrates of states of consciousness.
