The Institut de Biologie de l'École Normale Supérieure in Paris (affiliated with both French Research Institutes CNRS and INSERM,) is structured into four sections: Development, Evolutionary and Ecological Genetics, Functional Genetics, and Neuroscience. In total, the department comprises about 400 research staff of all categories. As part of the vocation of providing a broad research base for teaching and training, all levels of biological research are represented and intermingled: from molecules, genes, cells, organisms to ecosystems.
