Ana-Maria Zagrean

MD, PhD at Division of Physiology and Neuroscience "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy

Ana-Maria Zagrean graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in 1995. She has shown interest in neuroscience research from the beginning of the medical school and became an active member of the Laboratory of Neuroscience since its foundation.
Dr. AM Zagrean became through competition assistant professor at the Department of Physiology in 2000 and, in 2003, she got a PhD in Medical Sciences, Specialty Neurology, with the theme Cerebral ischemic preconditioning. During her PhD studies, October 2000 - March 2001, she obtained a doctoral fellowship at the Dept. of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Sweden.
Since 2001 she started organizing and coordinating a neuronal cell culture laboratory, as part of the Laboratory of Neuroscience in the Department of Physiology, with the financial support of the research projects she coordinated. In 2003 she became through competition Lecturer in Physiology and Neuroscience.
Her current studies are focused on the mechanisms regulating the brain responses to hypoxia/ischemia and the development of experimental models for the study of hypoxic / ischemic tolerance and neuroprotection mechanisms. These studies represented the objectives of several national research projects whose results have been presented at national and international scientific meetings and published in several papers in journals of international circulation. Ana-Maria Zagrean is also author or co-author of several scientific books in the field of physiology and neuroscience.
Ana-Maria Zagrean is a founding member and secretary of the National Society for Neuroscience in 2001 and organizer of the national and international scientific events of this society.
